Is Jesus coming back in the Year 2000 or in 2001?

The Question:

I have a question on how to handle something. My sister's father in-law has this theory that Jesus is going to return next year. He is so adamant in this belief that he has made no plans and he has told everybody not to make plans as well. I have told him very nicely that perhaps he should not get ahead of himself. People have been wrong about this issue before. My question is, was I right in saying what I said. Or should I have not said anything at all?

The Answer:

Matthew 24:36 Jesus said "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

Matthew 24:42-44 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

Matthew 25:13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."

The Bible says that NO MAN knows the day or the hour of Christ's return, and Jesus said in an hour that we think NOT, He will return as a thief in the night.

Since Jesus was most likely born in 4 or 5 BC, the 2nd Millenium since His birth has already begun!!!! So the year 2000 or the year 2001 is just another turn of the calendar.

The important thing is to BE READY, because you might go to meet Him in death before He comes back to earth. And being ready means being sensitive to the Holy Spirit 24/7 and not slacking off because of some predicted date.
