What is the Best Way to Raise Children?

The Question:

Some people only seem to concentrate on their children's faults - or worse yet - the faults of other people's children. But isn't it better to concentrate on their good points?

The Answer:

Yes! I know my daughter has faults, I'm sure she does, but most of the time I can't remember what they are! :)

She's raising a 4 year old step son right now, and it made me remember the struggles I had as a mom when she and her brother were that age.

It seemed like I was always saying NO!!! and it grieved me that their upbringing seemed to be so negative most of the time. I read an article somewhere that advised me to MAKE opportunities where I could say YES!!! more. So I made a conscious effort to do so. It must have worked because both of my children generally have a positive attitude.

Anybody can be a critic and concentrate on faults. But it takes faith, vision and commitment to encourage the positive, not only in our children, but in others as well.

Reminds me of these verses:
2 Corinthians 1:19-20 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "Yes." For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Although we must discipline our children, and teach them the right way to live, we should try to steer their lives towards the "Yes!!" of the promises of God.
