This part is not finished yet, but is near the top of my list!!! - Karleen

1 Angels are Messengers

Luke 1:19 The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

Today we have many ways to swiftly get urgent messages to people, including fax, email, phones, telegrams, and snail mail. But the most important messages, such as "I love you" or "You're in danger" or "I have a secret to tell you" are best delivered in person. And there are times when God needs to speak to us urgently and personally, so He sends us word by messenger.

The word "angel" comes from the Greek word aggelos meaning "messenger". Sometimes this word is used to refer to human ministers of the Gospel, since they are messengers from God, but other times it refers to angels.Although physical appearances of these messengers are rare, it can happen. What if it happens to you?

2 Will I Become an Angel When I Die?

Hebrews 1:4,14, 2:9 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs... Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? ... But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

The Bible makes it clear in many passages that angels and men are two different orders of creation. When Jesus became a man, He was made, in the order of things, a little lower than the angels. After His death and resurrection, however, Jesus  became superior to them. But Jesus never became an angel, before His incarnation or after His resurrection. At His command, angels have become our servants.

No where in the Word are we told that we are going to become angels and play harps and float on clouds when we die. Instead, we are told that when Jesus comes back to receive us to Himself, we will become like HIM.

3 What is the purpose of Angels?

Revelation 5:11-12 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"

Hebrews 1:14  Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

The primary purpose of Angels is to praise and worship God. This they have done from ages past and will continue to do in eternity future. They are also servants of God and deliver messages, fight on the behalf of believers, and protect believers. They have been sent by God to serve believers in Christ.

4 Do I have a Guardian Angel?

Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

Matthew 18:10 "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

The term "guardian angel" does not appear in the Bible as such, but the concept is there. One of the purposes of the angels is to watch over us and protect us. Jesus confirmed that each little one has his/her guardian angel in heaven that is always looking upon God's face. However, the Bible does not tell us to seek out our guardian angel, to try to communicate with or to worship our guardian angel. The angel is appointed by God on our behalf. We still are to pray to and worship God, not our guardian angel. There have been accounts where people have been priviledged to see their guardian angel, but these are rare, and not an event we should seek for.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter
of our faith, who for the joy set before him
endured the cross, scorning its shame,
and sat down at the right hand
of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2
