STOP EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH!

I am against Embryonic Stem Cell Research, especially the CREATION of embryos for that purpose. I believe that Federal funding should NOT be used for embryonic stem cell research and that embryonic stem cell research should be illegal PERIOD. Adult Stem Cell Research is promising, as is using donated umbilical cords. Below is an editorial I have sent to my local paper about this in response to this article posted on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2001/HEALTH/07/11/stem.cells/index.html

Please contact your federal and local politicians and ask for immediate action against this horrid practice! Please forward this to your mailing list! Please write your local papers! You may use the ideas expressed here freely.

Reproductive miracles are becoming commonplace due to in vitro fertilization and embryo implantation, bringing complacency about the "unwanted, unused" embryos discarded by fertility clinics - as if these were not tiny human beings deserving of equal rights under our Constitution. When a human egg is fertilized by a human sperm, a human being is created, regardless of where, how or why. We all at one time began as immature embryos who were given a chance at life.

I am appalled at the arrogance of Eastern Virginia Medical School researchers who created embryos from purchased sperm and eggs, not to bring a new life into an expectant home, but to destroy them for stem cell research purposes.

Have we now become as gods with the power of life and death? If we were that potent and wise, we could manufacture stem cells without destroying unborn persons. Yet we split ethical hairs and carelessly trespass upon the sanctity of life as if we have become gods.

I am sympathetic with those stricken with Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes or any other debilitating illnesses. I am diabetic, but I would rather die than be cured by the destruction of non consenting human beings.
