White Supremist Theology
The Question:
What is wrong with "White Supremist" Theology?
The Answer:
White Supremists believe a lot of theology that they maintain is Biblical. For example, some believe in a "Phineas Priesthood" that one joins when he or she kills a human being of color. A recent article in our local paper entitled "Furrow not the first to link God, gunfire: Some say Bible gives supremacy credence", RTWN, New River Valley Edition on August 13, 1999, contains a serious Biblical error in this thinking, which seems to support the contention that Phineas was awarded an eternal priesthood because of an interracial matter. I quote:
A careful reading of Numbers 25 reveals that the problem being addressed had nothing to do with race and everything to do with religion. The whole problem was idolatry:
After God punished the Israelites for this sin, Zimri had the effrontery to parade his Moabite wife (and implied Baal worshipper) before Israel. Phineas, who was of the priestly line of Aaron, Moses brother, impaled both Zimri and Cozbi, his idolatrous Midianite wife. Midians were subsets of the nation of Moab.
Who were the Moabites? They were of the same racial stock as Israel, offspring of the incestuous relationship of Lot (Abrahams nephew) and one of his daughters (Genesis 19:36-37). As stated, the issue was religion, not race.
Recall that Ruth was a Moabitess, and was accepted in Israel because she accepted the religious beliefs of her mother-in-law, Naomi, and rejected the traditional Moabite gods (Ruth 1:15-18). She also was included in the godly line that led to the birth of Jesus and is mentioned in Jesus genealogy (Matthew 1:5).
Furthermore, there is no Biblical support for the White Supremist theory that white men are the "lost tribes of Israel" and inherit the promises that God once gave to the nation of Israel. To receive the benefits of the covenants God made with ancient Israel through Abraham, Moses and others, one has to be born a Jew, or convert to Judaism. The only Biblical covenant that non-Jews or Gentiles are able to enter is the New Covenant in Jesus blood. Therefore, the REAL priesthood of Phineas is not open to a Gentile of any race.
The premise of some white supremacists that "Blacks and other people of color [are] the results of Gods first attempts at creating human beings" is, in effect, calling God stupid. To attempt to create human beings, to fail, and to leave the results of that failure around to contend with Gods "successes" shows a faulty thinking process and a complete lack of logic and understanding of God and His Word. Of course there is no scriptural backing for this assertion either.
The article referenced above also stated that white supremacists believe that "Jews [are] declared the offspring of a sexual liaison between Eve and Satan". They promote the belief Eve had sex with satan and produced Cain, who they say is the father of all non-white races. This is someones fevered hope that the non-Biblical doctrine of white supremacy has some scriptural credence. It does not.
Some have twisted the account of Adam and Eves fall in Genesis to be involved with sexual misconduct, and that the "eating of the fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil" is a euphemism for sexual intercourse, possibly with satan. It is not.
God created man and woman and the sexual means of propagating the species ("Be fruitful and increase in number") BEFORE the Fall in Genesis chapter 3:
The Bible is also very clear that the begetting of Cain and Abel occurred after the fall and was the result of intercourse between Adam and Eve:
Much ado is also made by white supremacists about the "mark of Cain" which they avow is racial differentiation, i.e. skin color. However the Bible says nothing about changing the color of Cains skin. This single "mark", somehow distinguishable from Cains normal skin color, was something visible God gave to Cain at CAINS request to keep him from being killed as an act of vengeance. (Genesis 4:10-16).
Many scholars think that this mark was some sort of scar or discoloration in Cains forehead (cf. Ezekiel 9:4, Revelation 13:17; 14:9,11; 20:4). There is no Scriptural reason to believe this mark was passed on to his descendants. At any rate, all of Cains descendants died in the flood.
According to the Bible, all flesh was destroyed in the flood, except for the family of Noah. All of todays races, then, according to the Bible, come from the seed of Noah, none are from the seed of Cain. Noahs merit in being saved was not due to skin color either. God tells Noah:
"Righteous" means to be in right standing with God, without fault before Him. Noahs righteousness is clearly portrayed as obedience to God and has nothing to do with race.
Some white supremacists also claim that Blacks and other persons of color are descendants of Ham Canaanites destined for slavery to the Jews because of Ham's encounter with his drunken, naked father (see Genesis 9:20-27). The "Table of Nations" in Genesis 10, however, only refers to the Semitic nations that lived in the Mediterranean area and all seem to be of the same racial stock.
Genesis chapter 11 tells us that the races of the world, along with differences in language, originated with the judgement of God regarding their exalted hearts that resulted in the building of the Tower of Babel. In this account, all men were equally judged, with no mention being made of supremacy due to skin color.
There is NOTHING in Scripture to support racial supremacy of any skin color, white, black, yellow, red, or any of the shades of pink and tan in between. The Bible is very clear that God does NOT look upon the outward appearance, but upon the heart (I Samuel 16:7, James 2:1-11, Revelation 2:23). We are also told that God has made of ONE blood all the races of men (Acts 17:26 KJV), and that all races are on equal footing in Christ Jesus (Romans 10:12; I Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:28). As Peter so clearly articulated after his vision of clean and unclean foods:
People who pervert and twist Scripture to fit their own personal biases reveal a lack of fear of God and a spirit of rebellion. They should not be confused with TRUE Christians who seek after Gods heart and love all men and women, regardless of race, national origin, social status or wealth. As James said:
What is wrong with White Supremist Theology? It's not Biblical and leads people into the sin of racism.
