We bind you by the authority of Jesus Name and cast you out of this place, before, during and after the study. Holy Spirit we look to you as our teacher, comforter and helper. Anoint the teacher and the learners tonight to hear and understand the Word. May something be said that will bring about healing in our lives and the lives of those we love. In Jesus Name AMEN Thank You Father in Heaven, for the blessings that flow over us in the name of Jesus. Amen The theme of these lessons is "The Manifestation of YOUR Healing". How can YOU obtain the healing that you need for your life? "Healing" is the PROCESS by which we receive relief from pain, deliverance from symptoms, reversal of deterioration, regeneration of bodily functions and restoration to full health, physically, mentally and spiritually. Let's spend a few minutes and briefly review what we've covered so far. Sickness came about when Adam made a choice to disobey God and turn his dominion, governance and care of creation over to satan, whose dominion or rule over the earth is harsh and cruel, and as a result we have suffering, sin, temptation, disease and death. When Jesus was lashed for our healing and shed His blood on the cross, He bought us back from the ownership of the devil, and sin and disease no longer has dominion over us. However, it takes constant vigilance, abiding faith, and ever increasing wisdom to receive and maintain our healing and health. Healing can come about through our natural body processes, through doctors and medicine, and/or through what is usually called "divine" or "faith" healing, although the source for ALL healing is God. Four provisions for healing in the New Testament are: by faith in the Name of Jesus, by the prayer of faith of elders with laying on of hands and anointing with oil, by confession of faults and praying for one another, and through gifts of healing given to a member of the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. In addition to this, in the Bible, there are many other "instruments of healing" or "points of contact" that have brought about healing. A "point of contact" is an event that helps you release your faith. Naaman's "point of contact" was dipping in the Jordan 7 times by faith. The Israelites released their faith by gazing on the bronze serpent on a pole, a symbol of Jesus and what the cross accomplished for us. The prophet Isaiah recommending fasting and sacrificial service as a way to show our faith and obtain healing. The woman with an issue of blood released her faith when she reached out and touched the hem of Jesus' garment. Another "point of contact" is being in the "shadow" or presence of a man or woman of God, such as Peter, and aprons and handkerchiefs blessed by a man or woman of God, Paul being an example of that. Jesus told the man at the pool of Siloam to wash the mud off his eyes. Jesus typically healed through the laying on of hands, and we are given that same ability through faith in His Name. Blind Bartimaeus was persistant in faith and shouted out his disease. These are just a few examples of healing from the Bible. There are many more, and I encourage you to check them out.
Amen Kay! Remember if any of these examples of healing seem to quicken your spirit or catch your attention, take some time and research that event thoroughly and listen to what the Holy Spirit tells you to do about it. Next we looked at some reasons that believers are NOT healed: Failure to ask:; believing that God doesn't answer prayer today:; Don't really want healing; Fearful of health; Jesus is not willing to heal; Not worthy; Demonic influence; Unconfessed sin; Disobedience; and Unforgiveness. Last time we had quite a lot of discussion on the topic of demonic influence in illness, and whether a Christian can be oppressed, depressed, possessed, etc. by demons. And the Holy Spirit has given me more revelation on this topic so let's look at this a little bit more. Then we will continue with some reasons that we are NOT healed. Remember, when your interest starts to really quicken, or you feel an urgency inside, it may be the Holy Spirit trying to talk to ya! John 8:34-36 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Jesus says "If the Son sets you free you shall be free indeed". Freedom, what a glorious word! But just what are we set free from? What are some of the things that Jesus sets us free from?
Right! Jesus sets us free from addiction and heartache and pain as well! Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life SET ME FREE from the law of sin and death. What was the law of sin and death? Not only the written commandments that revealed your sinfulness, but the curse that accompanied the law: the penalty of sickness and death which came from breaking the law. Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. "Redeemed" in the Greek is exagorazo {ex-ag-or-ad'-zo} meaning to redeem by payment of a price to recover from the power of another, to ransom, buy off, specifically of Christ freeing us from the control of the Mosaic Law at the price of his death on the cross. So we have been SET free from the law of sin and death, which was a curse that Christ bore for us on the cross, buying back or redeeming us from the control of the devil.
I Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. In the Old Testament a slave could be redeemed or bought out of slavery if the price of his freedom was paid in full. The blood of Christ was the price He paid for freedom for all of us. What was the curse of the law according to Deuteronomy 28? The curse included death and everything that leads to death. In Deuteronomy 28 we have a list of some of the curses, such as the boils of Egypt, tumors, festering sores, incurable itch, madness, blindness and confusion of mind, incurable painful boils, fearful generational diseases, severe and lingering illnesses, all the dreaded, clinging diseases of Egypt and every other kind of sickness and disaster not already mentioned.
What was the blessing of Abraham? Life and prosperity and the very OPPOSITE of the curses listed above - that is health and healing instead of death and disease! Since Jesus has bought us back or redeemed us from the curse of the law, IF we have trusted in Him for salvation, we have a legal right to demand that the curse be removed from us. We have a legal right to say, "devil you take your grimy, cursed hands off me right now in the Name of Jesus and by His redeeming blood!" Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship [adoption]. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
When does our liberation from the curse of the law begin? When we receive the Spirit of adoption, or sonship. And when does this occur? When we are born again. John 1: 12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Hallelujah! When you receive Jesus as your savior, when you have repented of your sins and turned from them, when you are born again, God gives us the POWER to become SONS of God! And you are set free from the curse of the law, from the yoke of sin, and bondage to satan. You are no longer a slave but a son!!! Colossians 1:13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, We have been set free! We are no longer under the dominion, mastery or control of darkness. We are in the kingdom of Jesus. So why don't we STAY FREE? Why does the devil harass us with so much, particularly disease? Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. We've been set free from the curse, part of which is all kinds of disease. Why don't we STAY FREE? If we don't STAND FIRM in our freedom and don't DEFEND ourselves against the attacks of the enemy, we can come under bondage again. Sometimes this happens very soon after being born again, due to ignorance or lack of teaching, because we don't resist the devil standing firm in the faith. I Peter 5:8-9 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. The devil DOES NOT PLAY FAIR! He is a thief and liar and will steal from you your health, your prosperity, your freedom in Christ, IF YOU LET HIM!!!! He is like a prowling hunter seeking prey. When he sees a weak spot in your armor of faith, he attacks without mercy. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The only way to STAY FREE is to STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH, resist the devil and he WILL flee from you! And if you've let the devil bind you up again, then just BIND him up in the Name of Jesus and cast him out of your life! Romans 6:17-18 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. We've not only been set free from the law and the dominion of the devil, we've been set free from sin! And set free to serve the Lord and with our whole hearts obey His teachings.
Romans 6:20-21 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! As far as healing goes, when you were a slave to sin, it resulted in shame, illness and death. But we've been set free from sin and the RESULTS of sin also, which is illness and disease.
Yes spitz, we've been set free from the control and effects of sin. But we must walk it out by faith, resisting the devil, renewing our minds with the Word. Romans 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. Now that we are set free, one of the benefits is holiness that leads to eternal life. And that eternal life is even now working in our bodies to bring us to health, IF we resist the devil's attempts to bring us into bondage again. So can demons oppress, depress and possess believers? Not legally, because we have been set free from the dominion, mastery or control of death, sin and the devil. But IF we don't stand in faith and RESIST the devil, he will try to bring us into bondage again. And if we yield to what the devil is trying to do in our lives, we give him LEGAL access to us - and he will do all he can, not only to make us sick, not only to bring about an untimely death, but to destroy our testimony for Christ.
Right Paul!!! And if the devil tries to put a disease on us, and we say, oh yes mr. devil come on in ... we're giving him the right to bring the curse back on it. We KNOW what the devil is doing. He is trying to steal, kill and destroy us according to Jesus. He is trying to devour us according to Peter. He is trying to defeat us according to James. We know what he's doing alright. We need to resist him, standing firm in the faith. Alright, so last time we discussed 10 hindrances to healing, one of which was demonic influence. Are there any questions about those before we go on? Now remember, we are going over these to HELP you manifest YOUR healing, not to bring you under condemnation, OK? Hindrance to Healing #11. POOR HEALTH HABITS Poor health habits can hinder health and healing. Just having faith when you are doing damage to your body is not enough to bring healing. In other words, by not caring for yourself you are showing that you really don't want to be healthy.
1 Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a very interesting verse because it DOES advise us to engage in some form of physical training or exercise. The Roman culture that Paul lived in was probably as obsessed with physical appearance and athletics as the one we live in. Notice that Paul did NOT say NOT to exercise, just to spend more time on training in godliness. Again this is not to bring condemnation on any of you "couch potatoes" or should we say "cyber potatoes" out there. But if you do not get regular physical exercise your body will not function correctly, just as if you do not get regular spiritual exercise, your spirit will be weak. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? Most of us who were raised in church have a deep reverence for "God's house" meaning the church building where we worship. We would not intentionally destroy or harm the place where we worship. But the Bible says that our bodies are God's temples. Shouldn't we take care of our bodies also?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. Undoubtedly, part of honoring God with your body is to keep it pure and refuse to sin. But also, taking care of yourself is important. We all have heard the drill: eat a balanced diet, get adequate rest, exercise moderately at least three times a week, don't smoke or drink alcohol. We all KNOW what we're supposed to do don't we? If we don't take care of our bodies, they WILL break down and cause us problems. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. What is this treasure that we carry about in our bodies? It is the light of God shining in our hearts, the knowledge of God's glory, and the all-surpassing power from God. Paul calls our bodies "jars of clay", because God made us of the dust of the earth. Often in Biblical days, treasure was hidden in plain earthen jars to try to fool thieves into believing there was no treasure there.
Right spitzfire! Salvation is instantaneous, but it takes a lifetime to walk it out. Exactly kay, those of us of the "platinum persuasion" still try to maintain the temple!
Well, gman, if you've ever tried NOT to think impure thoughts, you'll find that's the very thing that comes to mind! LOL Funny how our minds work. That's why Paul doesn't tell us what NOT to think about, but to think on godly, pure, holy, righteous things. And what we dream about has a lot to do with what we think about during the day, what we watch, read, do, etc. So if you spend your time thinking, reading, watching doing godly things during the day, you will be less likely to have impure dreams. Dreams are ways that our mind processes what goes into our heads during the day... if you are having impure dreams, what are you doing during the day to cause them, see what I mean?
LOL kay, right! And if you do have problems with impure thoughts or dreams, first of all, simply ask for forgiveness as you would anything else, believe that God is cleansing you, and try to fill your heart and life with godly things.
gman, hmmm not really sure. But if it IS a sin, you can always ask for forgiveness whenever it happens according to 1 John 1:9, and ask for wisdom in controlling what goes into your mind. And if the problem gman, is deep seated needs, feelings of rejection, abandonment, whatever, the Holy Spirit can root those out and heal them too.
But God does not want us to "hide" our treasure, He wants His light to shine out of us to a lost and dying world. So our bodies are in effect treasure boxes, or jewelry cases. And how do you treat the box or case that precious jewels, gold and other treasures are in? With care. So if you are having physical problems, how are you treating your body? How can you expect God to heal you if you are abusing your body with bad health habits? And what good would it do you if God DID heal you, if you go back to the same bad habits? OK, now for reason #12 that your healing may be hindered: ADDICTION. Remember, these thoughts are to encourage you and help you find what is hindering your healing, NEVER to condemn you!
Hindrance to Healing #12. ADDICTION Sometimes we fail to get healed because our illness or poor health is a result of ADDICTION, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sugar, soft drinks (caffeine) etc. This relates to poor health habits, of course, because addictions come about through constant abuse of our bodies with harmful substances.
I had an uncle who died of cirrhosis from heavy drinking, another who died of lung cancer due to heavy smoking. My own father died of lung disease, partly due to smoking and heavy drinking. All three of them would probably be alive today if it weren't for the destruction of their bodies by addiction. James 2:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Some other health problems stem from things such as sexual addiction, and gratification of sensual lusts and pleasures, for example in gluttony. And if your motive for being healed is so that you will be able to continue doing more of the same things, you will NOT receive from God. That's the BAD news. Stay tuned for the GOOD NEWS! Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Now God can and will set you free from any and all bondage, if you ask in faith believing, turn from your sin, and begin to follow Christ according to the Word of God. Jesus came to set the captives free! There is no more horrible captivity than an addiction, but no matter how strong you believe that bondage is, Jesus is stronger!!!! Now deliverance from addiction can be instantaneous, or gradual. We should NEVER judge a brother or sister who is struggling with such a monster. We should support them, pray for them, encourage them if they fail, and keep on loving them!
If you are struggling with an addiction, it is always too soon to give up and give in! Just keep offering yourself to Jesus and trusting in HIM and you will be set free!
AMEN servant and kay! Great points! AND if any of you needs prayer for any of these hindrances, you can stop us now, after the lesson, or email me at oldtimer@churchusa.com and I will be delighted to agree with you in prayer to overcome them! Now these hindrances aren't in any particular order, such as the Holy Spirit brought them to my attention. I believe that He wants to examine them in detail to help someone get healed!!!! Hindrance to Healing #13 LACK OF FASTING Another reason that some aren't healed is because of LACK OF FASTING. We've already discussed fasting in some detail as a "point of contact" for healing, so we will be brief here. Recall that Jesus said that some demonic bondage is only broken by prayer and fasting. And Isaiah states that if we fast according to God's will, which includes sacrificial service, then: Isaiah 58:8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and YOUR HEALING WILL QUICKLY APPEAR; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. If you missed the previous lesson on fasting, please look up the notes and also read the whole passage in Isaiah 58. The point is, if God has called you to fast, and to do sacrificial service for Him, and you refuse to do so, it will adversely affect your health. Matthew 6:16 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. Notice that Jesus said WHEN you fast, not IF you fast. Fasting should be a part of the Christian life to some extent. And when you fast, Jesus said to do it with a joyful spirit, not to be obvious about it. Some fast to show how religious they are, and their reward is the admiration of men NOW. This kind of fasting brings no healing or other lasting benefits. Matthew 6:17-18 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. The correct attitude towards fasting is shown in this verse. We go about our life normally, not complaining or making it obvious. And God will reward you. One of the rewards promised in Isaiah 58 is quick healing.
Right gman just as we discussed before. Just wanted to highlight it as a help to healing.
Hindrance to Healing #14. INFLUENCE OF OTHERS Sometimes we are not healed because of the friendship of unbelievers and their NEGATIVE INFLUENCE on our faith for healing. They will tell you that healing is not for today, or that God will not heal you, or something equally faith-destroying. James 2:4 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. In addition, they can be a negative influence on your lifestyle, and lead you back into addiction and bondage to health-destroying habits. They can also influence you to lose your faith in God, and actually become God's enemy once again! I have known several people that once walked with God, and are now not only enemies of God, but have destroyed their health, peace and happiness in the process. Hindrance to Healing # 15. UNRIGHTEOUS COVENANTS. Along with the influence of friends, comes another blockage to health and healing: If we enter into legal agreements with unbelievers, it affects us on a spiritual level, and can give satan legal access into our lives. A VERY common unrighteous covenant is to enter into a marriage relationship with an unbeliever. I can testify that this will not only cause conflict and serious spiritual problems, but health problems as well.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (KJV) That is, if two people are not in agreement, they will not be able to walk together. One will be pulling one way, and the other will be pulled in an opposite direction. If you are involved in an unrighteous covenant, you will be literally torn apart inside, trying to serve God and trying to fulfill the wishes of someone who is not serving God. 2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? Unequally yoked together is heterozugeo {het-er-od-zoog-eh'-o} meaning to come under an unequal or different yoke, to be unequally yoked; to have fellowship with one who is not an equal, as a believer with an unbeliever.
AMEN mom of 5! And can make you sick too! Now not too many of us are farmers, and even if we were, we probably use a tractor instead of a yoke of oxen. But in Bible days, yokes were very common. A yoke was made of wood, and normally was designed to fit around the necks of two matched bulls for the purpose of pulling a plow or threshing wheat or some other difficult and heavy farm chore. If the oxen were UNequally yoked, or mismatched, they would have a difficult time working together. Either the strong one would drag the weak around, or the weak one would hinder the strong one from doing his best.
poa, that's not a covenant relationship necessarily ... this is speaking of an intimate partnership such as marriage, or a business partnership. But very close, and best friends, that does pose a lot of difficulties.
The same goes with Christians allowing themselves to be yoked in an unrighteous covenant or contract with an unbeliever. As I said before, this can be a marriage contract, but it also can be any kind of legal contract, partnership or agreement. "In common" here in Greek is metoche {met-okh-ay'} meaning a sharing, communion, fellowship, or partnership. "Fellowship" in the Greek is koinonia {koy-nohn-ee'-ah} meaning fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation, fellowship, intimacy intercourse; the share which one has in anything, participation, a collection, a contribution, as exhibiting an embodiment and proof of fellowship.
2 Corinthians 6:15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? The answer to Paul's question of course is "None". Christ and Belial (another name for the devil) are NOT in partnership, have nothing in common, have exactly the opposite goals. Although a believer on the surface may seem to have the same goals as an unbeliever, in reality he is going in the opposite direction! 2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." If there is no agreement between the temple of God (US) and the temple of idols, why do we make so many legal contracts with those who do not profess Christ as savior? If we enter into partnerships with followers of the devil, it WILL adversely affect our lives: our health, our pocketbooks and our walk with God. 2 Corinthians 6:17 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." Now Jesus has told us that although we are IN the world we are not OF the world. We are to be His witnesses to a lost and dying world. But we are also told not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. If we disobey, we will have much grief, and it can, and usually does, affect our health. Now if you are married to an unbeliver, should you go out and get a divorce? Well Paul says to hang in there, because you might cause your unbelieving spouse to get saved! And if you have an unbelieving business partner, should you bail out of the business? These are hard questions, which you need to submit to the Lord in prayer. The important thing is to guard yourself from unrighteous covenants to begin with. Be obedient to the Word. Take everything to the Lord in prayer. Don't be misled by "Get Rich Quick" schemes! If something is too good to be true, it usually isn't! Sometimes someone will CLAIM to be a Christian to get you to make an investment. The Holy Spirit knows who belongs to Christ and who doesn't. Ask HIM before you enter a covenant with anyone!
OK, praise the Lord! We've been talking about hindrances to healing tonight. As I've said so many times, these thoughts are not meant to condemn you in any way, but to help you to overcome the obstacles to our health and healing. We talked about hindrance # 11. POOR HEALTH HABITS - how we need to take care of our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and treasure chests of God's power and light. Hindrance # 12. ADDICTION - which brings destruction to your body - you can be delivered from in the Name of Jesus! Hindrance #13 LACK OF FASTING Isaiah promised that a true fast unto God including sacrificial service to others brings quick healing. Hindrance 14. INFLUENCE OF OTHERS - who can destroy your faith in healing with negative attitudes. Sometimes Christians are guilty of this too, God help us! Hindrance # 15. UNRIGHTEOUS COVENANTS - these are intimate relationships or partnerships with unbelievers that will adversely affect us spiritually and physically. Next time we will discuss more hindrances to healing. Come back, same time, same station. And may your healing be manifested speedily! AMEN
Yes spitz! It is the ONLY Name given under Heaven whereby men might be saved. It carries ALL of His authority and power IF we back it with faith!
spitz, you can be delivered from ALL the oppressions of the enemy!
AMEN spitz, super glue yourself to Jesus! Sounds like a great idea. OlePappy - Father, Thank You for all those gathered here tonight. Lord, give us the wisdom to use the knowledge we have gained in our daily life. Thank You in the name of Jesus. Amen Father God we bless your Name and thank you for the attentive hearts you've brought here tonight. We thank you for the wisdom that the Holy Spirit has brought on ways we can overcome obstacles to healing. In Jesus Name AMEN Love to all and to all a GOOD NIGHT! Grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. |
||
Remember, whenever God gives us a revelation, the devil tries to steal it from us. Guard your hearts and meditate on what you've learned! And put it into practice. |
