What we say is paralleled in Heaven. If we bind something, as the power of the enemy, it is already bound in Heaven. If we loose something, as in loosing someone from demonic control, Heaven is in agreement with us and is already taking action to back up what we say. What an awesome privilege and source of power – to have Heaven working in partnership with us! The key to the rule of heaven on earth is speaking in agreement with Heaven, which opens the gates of heaven to release spiritual resources to accomplish God’s will on earth.

Weapon # 16 - Binding and Loosing

Matthew 16:15-16 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus was having a discussion with His disciples one day about who people thought He was. They answered, a teacher, a prophet, maybe Elijah. Jesus then asked, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answered that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

It matters very much who you SAY that Jesus is, not only by your words, but by your actions. Are your words and life proclaiming that Jesus and only Jesus is the Anointed One and the Son of the living God? Are you saying the Jesus is YOUR Lord? What you SAY will determine your victory over the devil, or your defeat!

Matthew 16:17-18 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades [or hell] will not overcome it [or not prove stronger than it].

The first thing Jesus said about Peter’s confession is that he would be blessed by it. What does what you speak bring to you? Cursing or blessing? Then Jesus states that what Simon said was not something that came by way of his intellect or the teaching of others, but that it was a revelation by Jesus’ Father in heaven.

1 Corinthians 2:12-13 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words [or interpreting spiritual truths to spiritual men].

One reason that so many spiritual things are difficult for people to understand is that they try to use human reasoning to figure them out. If we could understand the Word without God’s help, then why didn’t Peter get this understanding by himself? Why did Jesus specifically send the Holy Spirit to be our teacher?

Matthew 16:21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

Right after this declaration by Peter, which we will come back to in a minute, Jesus began telling the disciples about the end of His mission. They were not receptive to this at all, because they had wrongly believed that Jesus was going to lead a rebellion against Rome and bring political power back to Israel. They didn’t understand what Jesus’ mission was all about. Peter even presumed to REBUKE our Lord about it!

Matthew 16:22-23 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

This time Peter did NOT listen to the Spirit and got in trouble BIG time. In fact on the same occasion that Peter had gotten a revelation from the Father about who Jesus is, he made ANOTHER statement which was a "revelation by satan" if you will and was rebuked harshly for it. So even an apostle had problems understanding spiritual things at times. Now back to the original declaration:

Matthew 16:17-18 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades [or hell] will not overcome it [or not prove stronger than it].

So here, Peter FOR ONCE DID NOT put his "foot in his mouth"! LOL Because he was listening to wisdom given to Him by the Father through the Spirit. Now this statement by Jesus has been used by some to declare that PETER is the rock on which Jesus was going to build His church. But we see that Peter couldn’t have been "THE ROCK" that Jesus was speaking of, because he was fallible – subject to error and influence by satan.

So here Peter received a revelation from the Father about who Jesus is and was blessed by it. Peter [Petros] in Greek means a small rock or stone. THIS ROCK in the Greek is this [feminine] and petra, meaning bolder, large rock, or bedrock. What was THIS ROCK that Jesus was building His church on? The REVELATION from the Father that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Isaiah 28:16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed."

Jesus is our tested stone laid for a sure foundation. Paul declared Jesus as this foundation in 1 Corinthians 3:11: For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Peter himself identified Jesus as the Rock on which the church is built: 1 Peter 2:4-5 As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

This is what we stand on – our foundation. This is how we defeat the enemy – with this revelation of who Jesus is – and therefore who we are in Him. This is where our power over satan comes from.

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be [or have been] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be [or have been] loosed in heaven." Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

Now who is Jesus talking to here when He says "I give YOU the keys of the kingdom"? On the surface it appears that He is talking to Peter, but originally He was addressing all the disciples. Well did Jesus mean for us all to have the power and authority of the keys of the kingdom and authority to bind and loose, or did that authority go to Peter only?

Look over to the 18th chapter of Matthew, and here Jesus repeats this promise, but apparently is talking to all his disciples, and by extension, to us. Here "to you" is plural, which means it includes us all.

Matthew 18:18-20 "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be [Or have been] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be [Or have been] loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

In the first instance where binding and loosing is mentioned, Jesus addresses Peter as a representative of the group of disciples. In the second instance, Jesus is addressing the whole group. Notice here also, that binding and loosing is related to the power of agreement.

Aren’t you glad that 2 or three can agree and a thing will be done? If it took more than 2 or 3 to accomplish anything, wouldn’t we be in trouble? OK, let’s go back and talk about what these keys to the kingdom are and what they have to do with spiritual warfare.

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be [or have been] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be [rr have been] loosed in heaven." Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

Keys in Greek are kleis {klice} and since the keeper of the keys has the power to open and to shut, in the NT, keys are used to denote power and authority of various kinds. The keys to the kingdom give us the power and authority to do the works of Christ.

John 14:12-15 "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. "

Kingdom here is basileia {bas-il-i'-ah} meaning 1) royal power, kingship, dominion, or rule, not to be confused with an actual kingdom but rather the right or authority to rule over a kingdom, of the royal power of Jesus as the triumphant Messiah, of the royal power and dignity conferred on Christians in the Messiah's kingdom, or 2) a kingdom, the territory subject to the rule of a king 3) used in the NT to refer to the reign of the Messiah.

So Jesus is saying that He has revealed the keys to unlock the dominion or rule of Heaven here on earth to us. As Jesus prayed to the Father, "Thy will be done ON EARTH as it is in Heaven". God doesn’t have any problems getting His will done in Heaven, it’s earth that is the bottleneck here. One of these keys is the revelation of who Jesus is, the foundation of our faith. Another is the law of binding and loosing.

Bind in Greek is deo {deh'-o} meaning 1) to bind tie, fasten with chains, to throw into chains. It is used metaphorically when Satan is said to bind a woman bent together by means of a demon, as his messenger, taking possession of the woman and preventing her from standing upright. It also means to bind, put under obligation, of the law, duty etc., to be bound to one, a wife, or a husband or to forbid, prohibit, declare to be illicit.

Loose is luo {loo'-o} meaning 1) to loose any person (or thing) tied or fastened, such as bandages of the feet, the shoes, of a husband and wife joined together by the bond of matrimony, of a single man, whether he has already had a wife or has not yet married. It also means to loose one bound, i.e. to unbind, release from bonds, set free, of one bound up (swathed in bandages), bound with chains (a prisoner), discharge from prison, let go.

A third meaning is to loosen, undo, dissolve, anything bound, tied, or compacted together, as an assembly, i.e. to dismiss, break up; laws, as having a binding force, are likened to bonds; to annul, subvert; to do away with, to deprive of authority, whether by precept or act; to declare unlawful ; to loose what is compacted or built together, to break up, demolish, destroy; to dissolve something coherent into parts, to destroy: metaphorically, to overthrow, to do away with.

Wow, that’s a lot of power, isn’t it? Like a blank check – we can write it for any amount, or tear it up.

We have a lot of sci-fi stuff on TV and in movies that portray some sort of inter-dimensional conduit, or worm holes in space, that allow the resources (and usually monsters) of one dimension to be loosed into another dimension.

We, as God’s children, have been given the authority of Jesus Name, and through binding and loosing, can open up the portals of heaven to release the power we need to accomplish God’s will on earth. Spiritually, this transfer is more instantaneous than any "star gate" or "worm hole". We can tap into power from on high through our faith.

Edgardo Silvoso, founder of Harvest Evangelism in Argentina, reveals how the devil has been bound in his country, so that revival can break out. "Believers subscribe to the view that prayer plays a vital active role in God’s plan or redemption. They claim that without the church’s prayer God will not retake the territory invaded by Satan."

Silvoso continues: "They are quick to point out that every verse in the Bible dealing with prayer indicates that the action begins on earth. We must ask for Him to answer. We must knock for Him to open. We must bind and release for heaven to do the same."

Silvoso concludes: "The action on earth not only precedes but to some extent determines the answer in heaven. When it comes to preaching the gospel, it is the church’s responsibility to cast out demons, to heal the sick and to tread over the power of the enemy."

Let’s look at an example of Jesus doing this, so we can get a context to work with in understanding our authority in binding and loosing. First of all recall that when Jesus proclaimed His mission at Nazareth, He quoted from Isaiah 61:

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners

What did Jesus come to bind? For one thing, He came to bind up the brokenhearted. Don’t let us forget in our spiritual warfare, part of the battle is to heal those whom satan has tried to destroy. Our binding power is not only AGAINST evil spirits, but also for healing for those whose lives have been broken apart.

Matthew 12:18"Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. "

Remember that our spiritual warfare is ALWAYS in the context of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and with the anointing and guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is the context in which Jesus practiced binding and loosing, and without our relationship with Jesus and using the authority of His Name through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:19-21 "He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope."

This verse also reveals an essential attitude that Jesus had towards those He ministered to. He did not quarrel or make a spectacle of himself, He did not cry aloud in the streets. He gently ministered to those who came to him for help. He was not harsh with them – He was aware that they were like slim reeds ready to break, or a smoldering lamp about to be extinguished. He was sensitive to their almost dead hope, and so gently, so lovingly handled their hearts with care.

According to Isaiah 61, what did Jesus come to set free or loose? The captives and prisoners held in darkness. And this is part of our job as well – to bring liberty to those whom satan has bound. And remember that Jesus worked under the gentle anointing of the Holy Spirit and so do we.

It was satan that merited and received Jesus’ harsh rebukes, and those under the influence of a religious demon, who kept the people blind and bound, and accused Jesus of receiving power from the devil.

Luke gives us an example of binding and loosing in chapter 13 where Jesus heals a woman stooped over by a spirit of infirmity for 18 years. It was a Sabbath, and that day Jesus used His authority to loose her from the binding spirit.

Luke 13:12-13 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

So immediately Jesus put his hands on her and she was loosed from the spirit of infirmity, and straightened up. What a mighty God we serve! And this is the same authority that Jesus has given to us!

Luke 13:14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, "There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath."

An interesting reaction. Here is a woman who had been bound for eighteen long, weary years, and all the synagogue ruler could do is criticize Jesus! Instead of rejoicing at the woman’s deliverance, he was condemning Jesus for healing her on the 7th day. Not for healing her, but for doing it on the Sabbath.

Do you know that no matter what you do for God, there will be critics that are condemning you for the ways or means or over some theological, hairsplitting detail? And it’s usually the "religious" ones who fuss the loudest? And the interesting thing is that one will tell you that you are doing too much, and another will tell you that you are doing too little, all on the same day!

Luke 13:15-16 The Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?"

Jesus, the Word of God, the Sword of the Spirit, with perfect aim, revealed the thoughts and intents of their hearts. They cared for their property on the Sabbath, leading their ox or donkey to water, which is also work. Should not the Lord of the Sabbath lead a daughter of Abraham to the living Water on the Sabbath? Should she not be set free and given rest on God’s day of rest?

We need to refocus on our purpose in the Church today. We are not here to split theological hairs, and formulate doctrine. We are not here to be "heresy hunters" or point the finger of accusation at others. WE ARE HERE TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE! We have been given the keys of the kingdom of Heaven to bring the rule and government of Heaven down to earth. We are here to win souls for Christ and we have been given the spiritual authority over all the power of the enemy to assist us in our mission.

Now there are a lot of people who claim to have the authority to condemn and to criticize, because they say Jesus did that. But they fail to do the works that Jesus did in conjunction with His remarks against hypocrisy. Where are the healings, then, if you claim to work the works of Jesus? Where is the deliverance from satanic bondage? Where is the love for the outcast?

I do not claim to have attained the stature of Jesus, or Paul, or Timothy or even Titus. I know my spiritual shortcomings too keenly to stand up in pride and condemn others. I know my need of spiritual growth. But I also know that in Jesus, I have AUTHORITY over ALL the power of the evil one, and I choose to use my tongue to lash satan, binding and rebuking his oppressions, and loosing the captives in Jesus Name!

Luke 13:16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?"

This is the question we should be asking when we see men and women, boys and girls, creations of God Almighty, bound and oppressed by satan. SHOULD THESE BE SET FREE? And the answer is YES!!!

Mark 3:23-26 So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. "

Jesus had been accused of driving out demons by the power of satan. And He said "How can satan drive himself out?" You know, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for satan to operate against himself, does it? There are some today who oppose the current revival going on in the world, labeling it satanic. Does it make sense for satan to get people saved, healed, delivered and set free from himself?

Of course not! It makes no more sense today than it did then. Jesus made the point that a house divided against itself cannot stand. How many divorces occur because a house becomes divided and the husband and wife fight against each other? How many churches are torn apart because they become divided due to God’s rebellious children?

And look at the Church as a whole today! It is divided against itself and we wonder why there’s no victory! We need to come together in unity in Christ, and quit opposing ourselves. We are one Body, we need to start acting like it!

So Jesus is saying, NO I don’t cast out devils by satan’s power!!! That doesn’t make logical sense! And then Jesus gives us insight into how HE DID cast out devils. What did Jesus say?

Mark 3:27 "In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. "

Quin and Sherrer in "A Woman’s Guide to Spiritual Warfare" tell us how to BIND THE STRONG MAN: "Jesus gave us his authority over the devil and his evil cohorts, yet we must be motivated to use it if we want to see results…To bind evil spirits means to restrain them by addressing them directly and forbidding them to continue their destructive activity. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, our words loose the person from the enemy's bondage."

They continue: " In prayer we ask the Holy Spirit to minister to his or her need. Our prayer is directed to God, our warfare at the enemy. This tactic of binding evil spirits is especially effective when praying in agreement with a prayer partner".

They tell of an account concerning Renee, a spiritual warrior, who came against the spirit of suicide in her nineteen-year old son. This was her prayer: "Thank you, Lord, for giving us authority to use your name to set captives free. I plead the blood of Jesus over Mike, and ask you to protect his life."

"I come against the strong man of rejection operating against my son, and bind your power in Jesus' name. You spirit of suicide, you will not have my son I bind all spirits of rejection, hate, anger, murder, and suicide, in Jesus' name. I bind all unclean spirits associated with drug abuse, and cut Mike loose from past hurts and from unhealthy relationships. I command the spirits that are blinding and controlling him to release him, in Jesus' name."

"Lord, let your peace permeate this apartment. Show Mike how much you love him and desire to set him free from the bondage of the enemy. Thank you, Lord, for protecting his life and drawing him into fellowship with You."

Quinn tells us: "Seven difficult years passed before Mike finally came to Renee and asked her to pray for his deliverance. At last he was set free. "If I hadn't fought for Mike and kept showing him unconditional love, I don't think my son would still be alive," Renee told me. But he is alive, and serving the Lord with his wife and children."

Neil Anderson of Freedom in Christ Ministries (http://www.ficm.org/) in his daily devotional for February 11, 1999 speaks of OVERPOWERING THE CAPTORS: "A prime target for our authoritative prayer is the "strong man" [Jesus] mentioned in Matthew 12:29. Jesus was saying that you cannot rescue people from the bonds of spiritual blindness or demonic influence unless you first overpower their captors. Satan's power is already broken, but he will not let go of anything he thinks he can keep until we exercise the authority delegated to us by the Lord Jesus Christ."

Anderson continues: "By faith we lay hold of the property in Satan's clutches which rightfully belongs to God, and we hold on until Satan turns loose. He will hold on to these people until we demand their release on the basis of our authority in Christ. Once Satan is bound through prayer, he must let go. "

Anderson concludes: "All too often we proclaim the virtues of Christianity to unbelievers like someone standing outside a prison compound proclaiming to the inmates the virtues of the outside world. But unless someone overpowers the prison guards and opens the gates, how can the prisoners experience the freedom we're telling them about? We must learn to bind the strong man before we will be able to rescue his prisoners."

What are some of the bondages that keep men and women, boys and girls, enchained and imprisoned by satan? How about addiction, fear, lack of self-worth, false doctrine, false love? The list goes on and on… but we have authority in Jesus Name to bind ALL of these and more, and loose the captives, set them free in Jesus Name!

Now how do we know when someone is bound by satan and IF we should do anything about it? Linda Raney Wright gives sound advice (quoted by Quinn and Sherrer in "A Woman’s Guide to Spiritual Warfare"):

"Any activity in terms of spiritual fighting or warfare must be done under the leadership of the Holy Spirit For if God has the last word concerning events that transpire in our lives, then God, alone, can show us what to do, when to do it, and how.... We must totally rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God as to the course we take in the midst of any kind of fight or opposition or problem.... If we are listening and want to follow Him, God will tell us when to fight and when to rest; when to wait and when to move."

2 Corinthians 4:3–4 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

We must depend on the Lord for guidance in these matters. One area where we are told to move is in the blindness of unbelievers, who have been BLINDED by the god of this age, satan, against the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Again, Neil Anderson in his devotional for February 10, 1999, "COMBATING SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS", has some advice for binding the strong man in this context. "One need relates to the condition of blindness which Satan has inflicted on unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:3, 4). People cannot come to Christ unless their spiritual eyes are opened."

Theodore Epp wrote, "If Satan has blinded and bound men and women, how can we ever see souls saved? This is where you and I enter the picture. Spoiling the goods of the strong man has to do with liberating those whom Satan has blinded and is keeping bound. . . . This is where prayer comes in."

Anderson continues: "Prayer is a primary weapon in combating spiritual blindness. The apostle John wrote: "If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him" (1 John 5:14, 15). Then he immediately challenged believers to apply this principle by asking God to bring life to unbelievers (verse 16). Our evangelistic strategy must include authoritative prayer that God's light would penetrate satanic blindness."

So one way to use binding and loosing as a spiritual weapon is the BIND the BLINDING spirits in the unbeliever, and loose them to be able to see the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is a sample prayer: satan I come against you and the blinding spirits you have set in ____________’s life. I bind you and rebuke you and cast you out in Jesus Name.

Dear Father, I loose ___________ into your hands. Send people across his/her path that will lead him/her to Christ, and send angels to prepare the way. Open the eyes of ____________’s understanding to the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Send the conviction of the blessed Holy Spirit into his/her life, and I call _____________ saved in Jesus Name!

I’ve testified several times that the Lord delivered me from a spirit of fear, and that I obtained and maintained victory over it through binding the spirit of fear and casting it out of my life. Upon occasion, when I have "let my guard down" in some way, the spirit of fear tries to come upon me again. And I bind it again.

I might pray something like this: satan, I come against you and rebuke you in my life and command you to leave in the mighty Name of Jesus. Spirit of fear, I come against you and bind you in the Name of Jesus and say be gone! For God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of LOVE and of POWER and of a SOUND MIND! I plead the blood of Jesus over my heart and life and proclaim the victory in Jesus! AMEN

Another example: If you are praying about the spirit of addiction in a person’s life you might pray something like this: spirit of addiction I come against you in Jesus Name. I bind you and rebuke you and cast you out of ______________’s life.

Father I ask that the hunger and thirst for these addictions be replaced with a hunger and thirst for the Word. I ask that the resources of heaven be set in motion to loose this person from bondage and to bring them into full freedom in the Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN

Of course, these are just sample prayers. Ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit when doing warfare of this type. Also be sensitive to the spiritual condition of those you are praying for. Always involve them in their deliverance as much as possible.

Matthew 12:43-44 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, `I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order."

In the same passage where Jesus talks about binding the strong man, He gives us insight into what happens when a demon is cast out of a person. It wanders around trying to find another place to rest. When it doesn’t find this, it returns to the house it previously occupied (the man) and finds it all clean and empty.

In other words, the demon has been cast out, and the man is "cleansed", but he hasn’t filled his spiritual house with the things of the Lord and hasn’t allowed the Holy Spirit to dwell there. The former strongman (the evil spirit) has been bound and cast out, but no NEW strongman has taken up the guard post!

Matthew 12:45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."

So the demon goes, "Oh boy, oh boy", and finds 7 stronger demons, and moves back in. And then the man is worse off than he was to start with! Which brings up another point. In the Name of Jesus you have authority over all the power of the enemy. But it is not wise to go around casting out devils, and binding and loosing anyone and every one.

A person not only needs to be set free, but also needs to be taught how to STAY FREE. They have to know that the demons WILL try to return, and how to bind the demons for themselves. They need to know about setting the peace of God to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and need to allow the Holy Spirit to fill their cleansed heart-houses.

Ephesians 1:18-21 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

This is part of Paul’s powerful prayer for BELIEVERS in the church at Ephesus. We need the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit to keep us aware of who we are in Christ, because the devil is always working to bring us into a state of "spiritual amnesia" about who we are. The devil wants us to become dull spiritually, and get discouraged, disheartened and depressed.

That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Don’t we all need to know more about our freedom in Christ? Neil Anderson states that: "We also need to pray, as Paul did in Ephesians 1:18, 19, that the eyes of believers may be enlightened to understand the spiritual power, authority and protection which is our inheritance in Christ."

Anderson continues: "As long as Satan can keep us in the dark about our position and authority in Christ, he can keep us stunted in our growth and ineffectual in our witness and ministry. We need to pray for each other continually that Satan's smoke screen of lies will be blown away and that our vision into the spiritual realm will be crystal clear. Lord, remind me frequently to pray against the deception which the enemy uses to block my vision of Your will for my life. "

Psalm 149:5-9 Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds. May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, to carry out the sentence written against them. This is the glory of all his saints. Praise the LORD.

Spiritual warfare is an honor and a joy. We need to continually praise God and hold the Word, our double-edged sword in our hands. In the spirit, we bind the kings and rulers of the world and the principalities and powers behind then, to set the captives free, to the glory of God the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN

Remember, whenever God gives us a revelation, the devil tries to steal it from us. Guard your hearts and meditate on what you've learned! And put it into practice.
